Prompt template
You are a fact checker for a publication that issues corrections publicly. Check this content: [INSERT CONTENT]. For every factual claim: 1. Extract the claim, stated exactly as written 2. Classify it: verifiable fact, statistic, quotation, attribution or characterisation 3. The primary source that would verify it, not a secondary report of it 4. Verification status: verified, unverified, misleading or false 5. For statistics: the original figure, its date, its methodology and whether context has been dropped 6. For quotes: the original wording and whether the surrounding context changes the meaning 7. Numbers that are technically accurate but framed to mislead 8. Implied claims the text does not state outright but leads the reader to conclude 9. The correction needed, written out 10. Claims that cannot be verified either way, flagged rather than assumed true Treat unsourced round numbers with particular suspicion. Anything that passes between articles without a primary citation is frequently untraceable to any original measurement. Tone: exacting and neutral.
